Handy Q&A Information Sheet for Book Stores Buying Solemnly Swear from iUniverse Automatic Bookseller Discount Program NOTE: The author opted for a lower royalty rate on Solemnly Swear in order to offer booksellers deeper discounts and to make it easier for you to stock this Publisher’s Choice Title. As an added bonus to normal discounts, we now sell this book to leading wholesalers at a 50 percent discount. Why is this important? As you know, the two leading book wholesalers in the U.S. (Ingram and Baker & Taylor) are involved in roughly half of the trade book sales in the United States. The new deeper wholesale discount means that Ingram and Baker & Taylor will resell this book to thousands of retailers at a discount of 35 percent off the list price. The deeper discount gives book retailers more incentive to sell this title. The discount and margin book stores receive on this quality book is similar to traditionally published titles.
iUniverse Customer Service is ready to assist any business with its order. Our toll-free number is: 1-877-823-9235, our fax is: 402-323-7824.
Store: Is iUniverse the only place I can order books?
Solution: No, iUniverse has partnerships with leading wholesalers such as Ingram and Baker & Taylor; and every title is listed with R.R. Bowker's Books in Print.
Store: Your book shows up as out-of-stock or not available on our system.
Solution: Most online retailers calculate availability messages based on the physical inventory of a book-either in their own warehouses or at the warehouse of a distributor or wholesaler. All iUniverse books are printed on demand, which means it's not necessary for retailers to maintain a physical inventory because even if a physical copy of one of our titles is not on the shelf, the book(s) can be quickly produced on demand and shipped..
The availability messaging for print on demand titles can vary by specific distribution channel. If there is any concern about title availability please contact iUniverse Customer Service. We can address the availability questions and we can also produce and ship any order, for any of our titles, in 2 or 3 days.
Store: As we cannot return print-on-demand books, we cannot have you in for a book signing or stock your book.
Solution: There are four ways to address this.
1) The store may order limited quantities of the book.
2) The store may offer the book for sale as customers place orders and fulfill those orders with a leading book wholesaler such as Ingram or Baker & Taylor, or place a direct order with iUniverse.
3) The bookseller may purchase books and the author can buy any leftover copies that do not sell.
4) The author may sell the books to the bookseller on consignment, in which case the author is responsible for returns.
iUniverse has a special booksigning (or event) discount which is quite favorable. There are two options for the store to order your book-the store can order the books from iUniverse at a 40% discount based on our special booksigning discount, or the author may order the books and bring them into the store before the signing (on consignment).
In the latter case, the author can order the books from iUniverse, based on our special booksigning promotion, at a 45% discount. Orders placed for author events must be shipped to the event site to receive the special discount.
Store: Your discount is not deep enough for me to stock your book.
Solution: Retailer's standard discount is 25% discount off the list price on any quantity order of iUniverse titles. Retail accounts with a free-standing Distribution Center capable of receiving entire skids of books will earn an additional 5%. Retailers can also buy directly from leading wholesalers such as Ingram and Baker & Taylor.
Authors may resell their books directly to retailers. The current author discount structure is available on the iUniverse website or by calling Customer Service.
Store: How long will an order take?
Solution: Stores should receive books within one to two weeks of placing an order with iUniverse (this assumes standard ground delivery-faster shipping options will reduce the time).
